worst day ever
Today sucked. That's all there is to say. Sean wasn't mad at me, my mom wasn't annoying me, and I was allowed to go out? So why did it suck? Picture this: A one and a half hour hike through a misquito infested forest, and then another half hour of walking over uneven, unstable, sharp rocks to reach a beach, but by the time you get there: the sun is down.
Exactly. It was awful. Some of the suck was my fault, of course, but still. Sean was like, "Me and Tsang and Grant are going to go fishing at Shipman's, want to come?" And I said, "of course!" because I heard that it was beautiful from Kendra and Luke and everyone. But I had a 1:30 appointment with my hippie doctor, so by the time I got to Sean's house, it was 3. And by the time we got to the place, it was four. (We had stopped at a convinence store for bait and tackle, and at McDonalds for me.) So it was already late, but I figured we'd make it while it was still light out.
...However, Kendra had told me, "It's a long walk, though," drawing her eyebrows together, "a real long walk." But at the time, I hadn't thought any of it. Of course, I'm sure the walk would have been stunning and beautiful if all four of us weren't bogged down with fishing and diving equipment that we barely even used.

Anyway, when we finally got towards the edge of the forest where it met the cliffs, we stopped to mark our path (so we wouldn't be hopelessly lost on the way back). And then I looked down at my legs: and there were seven misquitos on my left leg. All at once. I started freaking out and crying, because I was so itchy. Sean took me to the ocean, where misquitos still kept biting me. I had 28 bites on my left calf alone. After that, I was too upset to count the ones on my right calf and arms. But Sean said there were over 20 on my back, too. Fucking sucks. Wherever I go, I am always the one being bitten by misquitos more than everyone else. I don't understand it. And since I have sensitive skin, the bites blow up to be the size of quarters. (Is there something that makes someone more prone to attracting misquitos?)
Then it was another long-ass walk on the cliffs, where I stubbed my toes on the sharp rocks and ugh. And it was 6:00 by the time we got to the beach, and the sun was just about done setting. But it was really low tide, and in the low light, I thought everything was beautiful. I was also wearing a long, flowy skirt (which I was complimented on at the convience store by a creepy old man! "Young lady, that is a beautiful skirt."), I felt like magic. I wanted to run around on the sand, awash in the glow of the fading light. But I also had to pee, so I was going off to do that when I ran into a HUGE animal. I didn't realize it was an animal at first. I thought it was a big rock, but I instantly saw a glowing eye, which made me yell.
It turned out to be a HUGE turtle.

My first thought was that she was sleeping, and then I thought she was dying, but Tsang thought she had just laid eggs, because there was a hole and kicked up sand near her. She didn't look too good, though. (I just talked to my mom about her, though, and mom said that a lot of turtles go to Shipman's, and that she will ride out on the next tide and not to worry.)
But anyway, there was this huge stream, because apparently fresh water flows out into the ocean. So we waded in the river (which Sean said isn't visible at high tide), and stuck our feet in the fresh water springs (which are these ominous looking holes in the sand.) The sand around the springs is like quicksand almost; you sink. And Tsang called us all idiots, saying that the ground beneath us could collapse at any time. (Tsang is adorable.) And then we headed back to where we had dumped our fishing equipment, which was like a taste of what was to come. It sucked. I didn't know we were going to be out after sundown, so I hadn't dressed accordingly or brought a flashlight. So Tsang let me use his, and stumbled his way back. (Tsang is adorable.)
The boys fished for a little while, as me and Tsang (who is adorable) made a fire. He was really good at it, too. And then after about an hour, we headed back: which sucked. It took forever to get over the rocks in the complete dark, with only 3 flashlights for 4 people. Tsang let me use his flashlight again, so he stuck glowsticks in his slippers, but it was still hard for him.
Anyway, I wasn't really scared walking through the forest, because I was too busy being salty and anxious about getting home.
And here I am. I am muddy, and sore, and tired.
And yet, I am really happy. I love life, and Sean. Today didn't really suck; I actually had a lot of fun. Just the walk there and back sucked. Oh, and last night, my family and Sean drove to the base of Mauna Kea to see the meteor shower, which the newspaper said would be best between 2 - 4 AM. But we didn't see anything. The only good thing about last night was bundling up in layers of clothes and blankets and lying in the back of my dad's truck with Sean with countless stars above us.. and that Sean got to sleep over. He is so wonderful. He really is.
